Ahmet Necdet Sezer was born on 13th of September 1941 in Afyon province, in the Aegean region of Anatolia. He was graduated from Afyon High school in 1958 and from Ankara University Law Faculty in 1962. Same year he started as a candidate judge of Ankara. During his military service he served as a reserve officer in the Army War Academy. Later on he became a judge in Dicle - Yerköy and then in the Supreme Court Investigation.
He continued to study Civil Code Law between 1977-78 and got his PhD from Ankara University. In 1983 he was elected as a Supreme Court member. While he was in the Division Two of the Supreme Court in 1988 he was appointed to the Court of Constitution as a primary member by the President. In 1998 he became the Head of the Court of Constitution.
On 16th of May 2000, he was elected by the Parliament as the 10th President of the Republic after Mr. Suleyman Demirel for a term of seven years, which he served until 28th of August 2007. He left his office to the 11th President who is Mr. Abdullah Gul.
He's married and has three children.
